¡Adios Senora Christensen! Sadly, Jill Christensen, Spanish and business teacher, will be teaching for the last day Friday, November 7.

When her spouse found out about a job opportunity in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, they decided that they would move. “This is a very unusual situation, and we will miss her dearly,” says Suzanne DeRobert, head of the World Language department.

Final candidates for this teaching space will be interviewed over the next few days, and will start promptly next week. “There has been communication between the final candidates and Ms. Christensen to try to ease the transition. It is always difficult to start over again with a new teacher” DeRobert explained. Freshman Isabelle Granahan-Field says, “It‘s going to be weird to adjust to another person‘s teaching style so far into the year.”

Ms. Christensen had some fun ways of teaching to get her students to enjoy the Spanish class. “She makes classes fun by letting us play games to let us learn things and giving us candy when we win!” Isabelle says. Sophomore Jaclyn Horowitz agrees, “She is my favorite Spanish teacher throughout my time at school.”

Not only do her spanish students enjoy her teaching, but so do her business students. Senior Peter Coffin, who has her for business says that he will miss “her open mindedness, her eagerness to teach, and how nice and understanding she always is.” The Newton South High School community will be sorry to see her leave. At the same time, we are all supportive of this move, and we hope she will adjust quickly to her new community.

As Ms. Christensen says, “I‘ll really miss my students and colleagues at Newton South. But I‘m trying to think about positive things that might happen in my new life in Pennsylvania.”
